Extreme phobia, elimination or avoidance of certain foods
Service Description
Neurodivergent children may exhibit or be diagnosed with AFRID. Emetophobia is an intense phobia of vomiting Children may exhibit but not be limited to the following. Eats from a short list of acceptable foods. Super tasters with gag reflex or Emetophobia Only eats food with similar characteristics, such as crunchy in texture, colourless, etc. Prefers certain food preparation methods Avoids vegetables, protein sources and fruit Eliminates certain food and never adds them back into the diet Poor weight gain and growth (particularly in children) Nutrient deficiencies are often a common association Skips one or more entire food groups Becomes emotional or demonstrates stress around unfamiliar foods Food limitations negatively impact normal social behaviours
