As our new book, "The SleepTalk® Method continues to find its way into homes all around the world , I’m thrilled to share some valuable insights on a topic close to my heart, the profound impact of the words we use with our children. Whether at home or in the classroom, our language can shape their self-beliefs, to hopefully allow them to flourish and grow. I was fortunate to have been spoken to respectfully as a child, it is something that I have always noted. I remember taking a teacher to task when I accompanied my son on a school field trip. In the bathroom and in a cubicle I could hear a teacher blasting orders to a group of 8 year olds. When I came out to wash my hands I respectfully reminded her that polite requests are a far more persuasive way to model behaviour rather than barking orders.

I have always believed that if we want our children to love and respect us it is so important to show that we love and respect them. This is no way means we have no rights to set boundaries for our children, merely it is important to gently evolve in communication choice with your child that is respectful and loving for the both of you.

The Voice of Belief, Because Your Words Matter

Consider for a moment the words you exchange with your child. Are they empowering? Supportive? Encouraging? Drawing inspiration from Psychology Today's eye-opening article, "What If Everything You Believe About Yourself Is Wrong," it is so interesting to consider how inaccuracies in self-perception can hinder growth and potential. Just as we adults need nurturing to develop a growth mindset, most crucially so do our young children. Reassurance without conversation or the pressure to express is vital to nurture children. Communication of reassurance allows a child to confidently express themselves as they cognitively align to emotional regulation without frustration of mis aligned sensory, cognitive scaffolding.

Creating Positive Self-Representations

In our book, "The SleepTalk Method®," we have expressed the transformative power of subconscious programming most often referred to as "auto suggestion" .
